NORILSK: A Siberian Airlines plane skidded off the runway at Alykel International Airport in Norilsk after arriving from Moscow, prompting an investigation by local authorities. The incident was reported on Thursday, but no casualties or significant damage details have been released.
According to Anadolu Agency, a statement from the West Siberian Transport Prosecutor’s Office shared on Telegram detailed that the Airbus A321 aircraft veered off the runway while turning onto the taxiway. The plane was carrying 79 passengers, and it has been temporarily grounded as officials work to determine the cause of the incident.
Norilsk, situated in the Siberian Krasnoyarsk region, lies more than 2,800 kilometers (1,740 miles) east of Moscow. The city’s airport is known for its challenging weather conditions, which can complicate aircraft operations.
The prosecutor’s office also announced that a reserve plane has been arranged to transport passengers back to Moscow. The return flight is scheduled to depart at 3:30 p.m. local time (0830GMT).
