Search continues for Guatemala volcano survivors: UN

Efforts are underway to find 200 people, who are unaccounted for, after Fuego Volcano eruption in Guatemala, a UN official said on Tuesday.

"Rescue efforts were still continuing as of yesterday despite ongoing volcanic activity that is bringing continued lava flow, toxic gases, hot ash and rocks," UNHCR's spokesman Andrej Mahecic said in a news briefing.

Noting that the Volcan de Fuego remains active, Mahecic voiced concerns that forecast rains could increase the risk of mudslides and landslides.

At least 110 people were killed, 12,784 people have been evacuated and 1.7 million people have been affected so far since the first eruption of Guatemala's Volcan de Fuego, he said.
