ISTANBUL: Russian Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov arrived in Pyongyang, North Korea’s capital, on Monday for an official visit.

A video released by the Prosecutor General’s Office captured Krasnov’s arrival, where he was welcomed by representatives of North Korea’s Central Prosecutor’s Office.

According to a statement from the Prosecutor General’s Office, Krasnov’s visit is the first by a Russian Prosecutor General to North Korea since the two countries began cooperating in this field.

‘Russian and North Korean prosecutors have been maintaining a constructive dialogue for more than 10 years on the basis of a Cooperation Agreement signed in 2010,’ the statement said.

During his visit, Krasnov will meet with his North Korean counterpart and discuss issues related to bilateral cooperation with other officials.

A cooperation program between Russia’s Prosecutor General’s Office and North Korea’s Central Prosecutor’s Office for 2024-2026, as well as an updated cooperation agreement, are planned to be signed, t
he statement added.

Since 2022, Russia, facing numerous Western sanctions, has been strengthening its relations with Asian countries, notably North Korea.

Most recently, Moscow and Pyongyang signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s first visit to North Korea in 24 years last month.
