Moscow: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Monday stated that the West has effectively signed a ‘death warrant’ for the US dollar by utilizing it as a weapon against its geopolitical competitors. Lavrov made these remarks during an address at an international science fiction symposium in Moscow, emphasizing that the dollar’s role as a global reserve currency and a means of international settlements is being undermined by Western actions.
According to Anadolu Agency, Lavrov accused the US and its allies of dismantling the globalization framework they once supported, highlighting that principles like fair competition and property rights have been disregarded. He criticized the West for abandoning commitments and agreements with Moscow and stated that Russia remains open to dialogue but has learned from these broken promises.
Lavrov further stressed that countries on the Eurasian continent should determine their own futures without external interference, advocating for a multipolar world. He mentioned t
hat if Western countries are willing to re-establish relations based on mutual respect and balance of interests, Russia would consider such proposals in line with its national interests.
The foreign minister also noted that while intergovernmental talks on state coexistence principles in a multipolar world are slow, Moscow is committed to continuing these dialogues at multilateral events, including the upcoming G-20 summit in Rio de Janeiro. Lavrov expressed regret over what he described as the West’s attempts to secure unilateral advantages, particularly through the privatization of international organization secretariats.
