Zaporizhzhia: Ukraine announced on Thursday that a series of Russian airstrikes in the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia resulted in the death of at least one person and injuries to 17 others.
According to Anadolu Agency, Zaporizhzhia Governor Ivan Fedorov communicated via Telegram that the assaults involved missiles and guided bombs targeting five locations in the region’s administrative capital. These strikes affected residential areas and hospitals. Fedorov confirmed that one individual died and ten were injured, including a one-year-old child. He noted that two of the injured, including a medical worker, are in serious condition. The number of injured later rose to 17, including three children.
On the previous day, the city experienced another Russian airstrike that claimed six lives and injured more than 20 people, as reported by authorities. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed on X that such attacks not only result in casualties and destruction but also nullify discussions or appeals to
the Kremlin. He emphasized the need for enhanced air defenses and the capability for Kyiv to conduct long-range strikes against Russia.
The Russian Defense Ministry has stated that it targeted the infrastructure of a military airfield, along with military warehouses and oil depots belonging to the Ukrainian army. However, Moscow has not commented on the recent attack on Zaporizhzhia. The city, situated 40 kilometers from the front line with Moscow, has been a frequent target amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, which is approaching its 1,000th day.
