Russia says all necessary agreements with China on energy supplies will be reached

ISTANBUL: The Kremlin said on Monday that all necessary agreements with China regarding energy supplies to the country will be reached. 'The coordination of commercial issues will continue, and we have no doubt that all the necessary agreements will be reached,' Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters at a press briefing in Moscow about whether Russia offered China to buy gas at prices on its domestic market. Expressing that it is completely normal that each country defends its interests, Peskov said negotiations between Russia and China will continue due to the political will of the leadership of the two countries. Peskov further said that cooperation between Moscow and Beijing in the field of energy supplies was on the agenda of talks held between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping during the former's visit to China last month. 'And in general, as was also recorded in the signed bilateral declaration, both Russia and China … are interested in continuing and deepenin g the energy dialogue,' he added. A joint statement by the two countries on May 16 during Putin's two-day visit to China declared that Moscow and Beijing will continue to strengthen their strategic partnership in the energy sector and carry out its development at a high level 'in the interests of ensuring the economic and energy security of the two countries.'
