Russia says 19 injured as Ukrainian missile hits apartment building


ISTANBUL: Russia said on Sunday that a Ukrainian missile strike on an apartment building in the city of Belgorod injured 19 people.

“According to preliminary information, a total of 19 people were injured in the city, including two children. All victims were transported by ambulance teams to medical institutions in Belgorod … The dead have not yet been found,” Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Telegram.

Gladkov said the entrance to the 10-story building collapsed, adding that a partial collapse of the roof occurred during the evacuation of residents from the affected apartments and efforts to remove the rubble.

Emergency Situations Ministry said 16 people had been rescued during search and rescue operations.

The Defense Ministry, meanwhile, said it downed 12 Ukrainian missiles over Belgorod, and fragments of one of the downed missiles struck the residential building.

Kyiv authorities have not yet commented on the claims.
