Russia Offers Condolences Following Fatal Car-Ramming Attack in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS: Russia has expressed its condolences to the families of victims affected by a deadly car-ramming attack in New Orleans, Louisiana, which resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries. The tragic incident occurred when a truck drove through a crowd in the city’s French Quarter, causing significant loss of life and leaving dozens injured.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Russian Embassy in the United States released a statement extending sympathies to those impacted by the attack. “We express our condolences to the families and friends of the victims, as well as wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured,” the statement read. The embassy noted that, based on current information, no Russian citizens were involved in the incident.

The attack took place around 3:15 a.m. local time, when a truck plowed through New Year’s partygoers in New Orleans’ iconic French Quarter. At least 15 people were killed and more than 30 others sustained injuries in the chaos that unfolded early Wednesday morning.

Russian officials have assured that its Consulate General in Houston is actively communicating with local law enforcement in New Orleans to monitor the situation. Meanwhile, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has identified the suspect as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old U.S. citizen and Army veteran. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation as authorities continue to piece together the sequence of events leading up to the tragedy.

This incident has drawn international attention, prompting responses from global leaders who are closely watching the developments and offering support to the United States and the affected community in New Orleans.
