MOSCOW: Russia announced on Thursday that its military forces have seized control of another settlement in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, marking a continued progression in Moscow’s offensive operations in the area. The Russian Defense Ministry stated that its troops have taken over the village of Zorya, situated approximately 13 kilometers northwest of Kurakhove, a strategic location for Ukrainian forces in Donetsk.
According to Anadolu Agency, the village of Zorya is strategically positioned 22 kilometers south of Pokrovsk, an area of significant military activity and a key logistical hub for the Ukrainian army in the region. Russia’s recent military advancements in Donetsk have been frequently reported, underlining its persistent efforts to capture critical territories in eastern Ukraine.
In a subsequent statement, the Russian Defense Ministry also reported the recapture of the village of Novoivanovka in the Kursk region, near the Russia-Ukraine border. This area became a focal point following a Ukrai
nian incursion on August 6. Novoivanovka is located roughly 10 kilometers from the border and about 18 kilometers northwest of Sudzha, a town previously claimed by Kyiv during its operations in the region.
Ukrainian authorities have not yet issued a response to these claims, and independent verification remains challenging due to the ongoing conflict.
