ISTANBUL: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday blamed the US for trying to foment chaos globally by destabilizing one region after another.
‘By destabilizing region after region,’ the Americans are trying to spread chaos. ‘But in reality, I believe they have no idea what they are doing,’ Lavrov said during a speech to the Russian parliament, or State Duma.
Lavrov claimed that Western countries’ plans to isolate Russia failed, owing to a mutual understanding between Moscow and the Global South and the Global East regarding the future.
Promoters of such initiatives deemed to fail, he said, stressing the importance of admitting the policy’s failure.
It is clear that the potential for hostility has not yet been exhausted, and pressure will continue on Russia and its allies, the top diplomat said, claiming that ‘a wide arsenal of hybrid warfare tools’ in areas such as the economy and finance, information space, culture, and sports are being used to continue that pressure.
However, Lavrov said R
ussia will continue to pursue a sovereign foreign policy, which is ‘proving its viability, primarily in terms of the effective protection of national interests and the promotion of truly mutually beneficial international cooperation in a variety of formats.’
Commenting on the situation in Ukraine, he said the West does not want to take into account Russia’s interests, so options for reaching an agreement on Ukraine at the negotiating table are ‘not visible.’
‘Those who declared war on us have no serious proposals, and due to the unwillingness to take into account either our interests or the realities on earth, of course, it will not be possible to reach an agreement at the negotiating table for the time being. Such options are not visible,’ he explained.
He went on to say that Moscow is open to a political and diplomatic settlement in Ukraine, as Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized in an interview with Tucker Carlson last Thursday.
He also expressed that expanding ties with its partners and like-m
inded people in Eurasia is one of Russia’s top foreign policy priorities, underlining Moscow’s strategic partnership with India and relations with China, which he said are now at ‘the best level in their entire history.’??????????????
