Government Spokesperson, Konstantinos Letymbiotis on Friday said that the Republic of Cyprus was handling through diplomatic channels a ban on entry into Russia of three officials of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Cyprus, noting that it was necessary to ‘allow diplomacy work.’
In his statements to journalists at the Presidential Palace, when asked about the matter, the Spokesperson said that this was ‘not a pleasant development’. He noted that the ban concerns three officials who were not related with the essence of the case, but were involved in the implementation of the decisions of the competent authorities. ‘All the necessary measures had been taken on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus, to protect the national security of our State, but also to implement the decisions and protect the interests of the Republic’, he added. ‘We are in contact through diplomatic channels, let’s allow diplomacy to work’, Letymbiotis said.
On Thursday, Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a ban on e
ntry into the country of citizens-officials of the Republic of Cyprus, connected with the suspension of the accreditation of the correspondent of the newspaper of the Russian government and his deportation from Cyprus last October.
