Retail sales dropped by 2.7% in the euro area and 2.6% in the EU, month-on-month in December, official figures showed on Monday.
Among member states, the largest decreases in retail trade volume were seen in the Netherlands with 6.3%, Germany 5.3% and Luxembourg 3.8%.
On a yearly basis, retail sales decreased by 2.8% both in the euro area and the EU in December.
Belgium, Denmark and Sweden posted the largest annual decreases with 9.2%, 8.4%, and 7.1%, respectively.
