Restoration works in Agios Fanourios cave in the pipeline, TCCH Co-chair tells CNA

The bicommunal Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage (TCCH) includes the cave of Agios Fanourios, in Turkish-occupied Kyrenia, in its restoration plans for projects to be implemented in the near future, according to the Greek Cypriot Co-chair Sotos Ktoris who spoke to CNA.

Ktoris said that there is a series of TCCH projects for the conservation and restoration of monuments in the area. Some are in process while others are expected to begin shortly, he added, including the area where the cave is located.

In the meantime, local authorities and refugee associations jointly addressed the Bishop of Kyrenia, caling for the restoration of the religious monuments in the area. The Church of Cyprus is the lawful owner of Christian Orthodox religious monuments throughout the island. A relevant letter was sent to the Bishop last Monday, August 26.

In numerous occasions in the past, there have been reports raising concerns about the situation in the Agios Fanourios cave and the nearby church.
