Red Cross/Red Crescent Leader Urges Ceasefire on Humanitarian Workers

Antalya: The CEO of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has called for a global cessation of attacks on humanitarian workers, particularly highlighting the challenges in delivering aid to the Gaza Strip.

According to Anadolu Agency, Jagan Chapagain addressed the issue during Turkey’s Antalya Diplomacy Forum, underscoring the severe difficulties in providing humanitarian assistance to Gaza. Chapagain noted that for over a month, no aid has been allowed into the region since Israel halted all humanitarian entry on March 2.

Chapagain stressed the urgent need to stop the targeting of humanitarian workers worldwide and emphasized the importance of adhering to fundamental principles and international emergency law.

He highlighted the ongoing global challenges, with numerous crises and conflicts occurring simultaneously. One significant issue, he noted, is the absence of political solutions, leading to prolonged and recurring crises.

Chapagain concluded that diplomacy and engagement are essential in reversing this unsustainable situation where one crisis follows another.
