Amman: Pro-Palestine rallies were staged Friday in Jordan, Morocco, and Mauritania against the resumption of the Israeli military actions in the Gaza Strip. In Amman, Jordan’s capital, hundreds took to the streets in a demonstration to voice solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza who endure deadly attacks.
According to Anadolu Agency, speeches during the rally demanded urgent action from the international community to stop what they described as war crimes in Gaza. Jordanian parliamentarian Ahmed Al-Reqeb, who joined the demonstration, called on his government to sever ties with Israel and annul the existing peace agreement.
In Morocco, thousands participated in rallies across the Kingdom. An Anadolu correspondent reported that the solidarity rallies were organized after Friday prayers in several cities, including Meknes, Al-Hoceima, Tetouan, Fez, Casablanca, El-Jadida, Taza, Oujda, and Taourirt.
In Mauritania, hundreds rallied in the capital, Nouakchott, protesting Israeli actions in Gaza. Protesters waved Palestinian flags and chanted in support of the Palestinian resistance. An Anadolu correspondent noted that 37 Mauritanian parliamentarians had delivered a letter to the charg© d’affaires of the US Embassy in Mauritania, John Ice, holding the American government accountable for the situation in Gaza.
Reports indicate that more than 700 Palestinians have been killed and over 900 injured in a surprise aerial campaign by Israel on Gaza since Tuesday, disrupting a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement established in January. Since October 2023, nearly 50,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed, and more than 112,000 injured in the ongoing conflict.
Additionally, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel is also facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice concerning its actions in the enclave.
