Qatar on Saturday strongly condemned the burning of a copy of the holy Quran in the Danish capital Copenhagen. In a statement, Qatar's Foreign Ministry described the incident as a "heinous act of incitement" and a provocation to the feelings of Muslims all over the world. It added that such acts fuel hatred and violence and "threaten the values of peaceful coexistence." The ministry reiterated its call for backing the values of tolerance and coexistence, and "to establish the principles of international peace and security through dialogue and understanding." Recent months have seen several acts of Quran burning, or attempts to do so, by Islamophobic figures or groups in northern Europe and Nordic countries, especially in Denmark and Sweden.
