President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, visits Athens on Wednesday, to address an event organised by the University of Athens condemning the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion against Cyprus.
According to a press release issued by the Presidency, during his visit, the President will also lay a wreath, at the Memorial to the Fallen in Cyprus, located in Goudi, Athens, in the presence of Greek Military Chief, General Dimitris Houpis.
In the afternoon, President Christodoulides will inaugurate the Photography and Multimedia Exhibition for Famagusta of journalist Soteris Danezis at the “Melina Merkouri” Cultural Center, in Thisio, Athens.
Later on, he will speak at a commemorative event organized by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, on the premises of the University, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, in the presence of the University authorities and other officials.
Cyprus, an EU member state since 2004, was invaded in the summer of 19
74 by Turkish troops, which since then occupy one third of the Mediterranean country’s territory.
