President says investing more in sports is necessary

We need to invest much more in sport, President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides said on Saturday morning, underlining that he has already announced special financial assistance so that athletes who are very close to qualifying receive support to attain their goal and participate in the Olympic and Paralympic Games. President Christodoulides spoke to the Media ahead of a basketball charity match, as part of the Telethon 2024 Month, held at the Keravnos Strovolou club, in Nicosia. The President himself participated at the match, along with members from the government, journalists, athletes and others. Asked how the Government will stand by athletes who take part in the upcoming Olympic Games, the President of the Republic said that "I have already announced special financial assistance , so that our athletes who are very close to qualifying, receive support to attain their goal to participate in both the Olympics and the Paralympics." Asked whether such events, raise awareness among the publ ic, he said "apart from the charitable dimension, which we always support, we have a goal that I mentioned during the election campaign, and we will implement it." He added that more must be done in sports, indicating that "we need to invest more, it is the future, it is the new generation and that is why I am here today, together with the President of the Cyprus Sports Organization, precisely to show the government's will to do more in sports".
