President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides praised the role of Cypriot overseas organisations for their contribution in promoting Cyprus' national causes, and of Hellenism in general, in a video message during a ceremony for the Pheidippides Award, in USA. This year's award, organized by the Greek radio station Cosmos FM, was presented to the Federation of Cypriot American Organizations (FCAO) and the International Coordinating Committee - Justice for Cyprus (PSEKA) in recognition of their advocacy for Cyprus' cause, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary since the 1974 illegal Turkish invasion and continued occupation of Cyprus. In his video message, President Christodoulides said that the two organisations deserve every award for their "tremendous efforts" over the years for a reunified Cyprus together with the Greek Diaspora in the United States. The President thanked the two organisations for defending Cyprus' national cause and for their active participation in the ongoing struggles for Cyprus. PSEKA President, Philip Christopher, noted said that this was a great honour for the Cypriot diaspora in the United States, which is about 70,000-people-strong and constitutes an integral part of Hellenism. In the 50 years since the Turkish invasion, the diaspora remained united and is working for the reunification of Cyprus, he noted. Regarding the award, he said that it is a testament to the work that the federation does. Christopher also referred to the PSEKA Conference that will be held in Washington DC on 11-13 June in the presence of the Foreign Minister of Cyprus. He said that the organisation will visit the White House, during the Conference, and will have the opportunity to meet with the White House National Security Advisor and, hopefully, Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken as well.
