Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides participated on Sunday in a futsal match held in the framework of Telethon 2023, an annual campaign to raise awareness and funds for people with neurological diseases and other degenerative disorders, at GC School of Careers in Nicosia. Justice Minister Anna Koukkides Procopiou also attended the event to support the charitable cause.
The event was organised by the Cyprus Police Athletic Association, under the auspices of Chief of Police, Stelios Papatheodorou, and was held in memory of former Assistant Police Chief of Nicosia, Thomas Efthymiou, who passed away prematurely in April 2016.
In his remarks to reporters on the sidelines of the event, President Christodoulides said that "it is an event that takes place to contribute to Telethon, but at the same time to honour the memory of a deserving officer of the Cyprus Police who has gone too soon."
"We are here, together with the Minister of Justice, to support this effort, this initiative, and we consider such events to be particularly important," he concluded.
President Christodoulides participated in two 10-player Futsal matches. The President's team was joined by police officers from his police guard.
