ANKARA: Trkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized the effectiveness of Ankara’s foreign policy in Syria and called for greater cooperation with the European Union on counterterrorism and reconstruction efforts, during a meeting with Hungarian Premier Viktor Orban in Ankara. The discussions also focused on enhancing bilateral relations and addressing regional and global issues.
According to Anadolu Agency, President Erdogan highlighted the recent developments in Syria as evidence of Trkiye’s successful humanitarian and ethical foreign policy. He stressed the importance of collaboration with EU countries in areas such as counterterrorism and the reconstruction of Syria, as well as reforming existing institutions. Erdogan and Orban expressed their commitment to strengthening the longstanding bilateral relations between Trkiye and Hungary, which have spanned over a century. The two leaders emphasized efforts to increase trade volume to $6 billion and expand cooperation, particularly in the energy sector

President Erdogan also expressed his pleasure in hosting Prime Minister Orban and his delegation for the closing ceremony of the 2024 Turkish-Hungarian Cultural Year. In a separate meeting with Hungarian President Tamas Sulyok, Erdogan reiterated the intention to elevate the strategic partnership between Trkiye and Hungary, enhancing political, economic, and cultural ties. He acknowledged Budapest’s support for Ankara’s EU membership process and expressed gratitude for Hungary’s contributions to the Organization of Turkic States as an observer member.
The Turkish Communications Directorate conveyed President Erdogan’s commitment to supporting the Syrian people in reconstructing their country, with a focus on maintaining Syria’s unity and territorial integrity.
