After the one-hour break, voting for the election of members of the European Parliament and local authorities resumed normally at exactly 1pm (local time) in Cyprus. Chief Returning Officer, Elikkos Elias, announced that polls reopened and called once more on all voters to "go to the polls responsibly to exercise their right to vote, to elect the people who will represent our country in the European Parliament for the next five years, as well as the people who will lead the Local Government, which directly affects the daily lives of citizens" following the reform of the local administration. Asked about the participation rate in the elections that would be considered satisfactory, he said that he believes that if the participation exceeds 60% it would be satisfactory. He reiterated that any incidents that might have occurred are isolated and are unable to cast a shadow over the electoral process. In response to a relevant question, he clarified that if a citizen has two European citizenships, then he coul d also vote by postal vote for his country and vote in Cyprus as well. But if he has only one citizenship, then he can vote for MEPs of only one country. Source: Cyprus News Agency
