PKK/YPG Tunnel Network Discovered in Syria’s Manbij Province

MANBIJ: A vast tunnel network used by the PKK/YPG terror group has been uncovered in Syria’s Manbij province during the Syrian National Army’s (SNA) Operation Dawn of Freedom, revealing strategic construction designed for concealing vehicles and facilitating transportation.

According to Anadolu Agency, the tunnels are expansive enough to allow trucks to pass through, with some sections reaching heights of up to 7 meters (23 feet). Spanning approximately 5 kilometers (3 miles), these tunnels were discovered near the Karakozak Bridge in eastern Manbij. The intricate network was constructed to enable vehicle movement and to conceal PKK/YPG vehicles, highlighting the strategic importance of the location for the group.

The entrances to the tunnels featured construction materials such as rebar and concrete walls, indicating significant effort and resources were invested in their construction. Additionally, deep pits located near the tunnels suggest the existence of pedestrian access points or ventilation shafts,
further emphasizing the complexity of the network.

Earlier this month, the Syrian National Army successfully liberated Tel Rifaat on the first day of Operation Dawn of Freedom, marking a significant step in removing PKK/YPG forces from the region. The capture of Manbij signifies the clearing of a major PKK/YPG stronghold west of the Euphrates River, underscoring the progress made by the SNA in securing the area from the group’s influence.
