Open Arms unloads aid in safety, to return to Cyprus

Nearly 200 tons of humanitarian aid was unloaded in safety in Gaza by the non-governmental organization World Central Kitchen (WCK) after the “Open Arms” ship which left from Larnaca Port on Tuesday arrived on Friday.

A second ship is due to leave from Larnaca over the weekend.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Theodoros Gotsis told CNA, the unloading was completed safely and the ‘Open Arms’ is expected to return to Cyprus.

WCK said on X that the ship offloaded almost 200 tons of rice, flour, proteins and more that arrived by sea earlier today. At the same time a second vessel from WCK is preparing to set sail from Cyprus with hundreds more tons of food.

WCK’s Juan Camilo said on X that the second ship they are dispatching to Gaza from Cyprus with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the UAE and President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides “among the hundreds of tons of aid are pallets of dates, which hold spiritual significance during Ramadan”.
