Necessary measures taken in all critical services, Minister says about GPS interference

Necessary measures have been taken in all critical services, the Minister of Transport, Alexis Vafeades said on Monday about GPS interference, noting that it was an external phenomenon. Asked by journalists to comment on the problems that have been identified as regards the GPS system for some time and whether any measures could be taken, Vafeades said 'we cannot change this situation', noting that the whole region has been affected. He said that they have assessed the situation and that it concerns an interference affecting some systems. Vafeades also said that they handled the issue as regards some critical infrastructure, but that 'unfortunately', they could not do anything about GPS in phones, or cars. Asked if by critical infrastructure he meant the airspace, he answered in the affirmative. 'There's no issue there. There are systems which help us provide services and serve the airspace without problems', the Minister said, noting that air traffic controllers can and are handling the issue, and that a irline pilots also knew how to handle it.
