Nature Restoration Act comes into force to help ecosystems

The Nature Restoration Act enters into force on the 18th of August constituting a further step towards reversing nature loss, achieving climate neutrality, and improving Europe's preparedness and resilience to the impacts of climate change. A press release by the European Commission says that it will help the EU and its Member States achieve the restoration target they committed to in the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework at COP15 on biodiversity in December 2022, and is a key element of the European Green Deal and the EU Biodiversity Strategy. The Nature Restoration Act will establish a process of continuous and sustainable nature restoration on EU land and sea. The overall target to be achieved at EU level is for Member States to put in place restoration measures in at least 20% of EU land areas and 20% of EU sea areas by 2030. Such measures should be in place by 2050 for all ecosystems in need of restoration. Source : Cyprus News Agency
