The Council of Ministers approved on Thursday the regulation for the National Cybersecurity Certification Authority, Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Philippos Hadjizacharias said after the Cabinet’s meeting.
Hadjizacharias explained that the decision concerns the Digital Security Authority (DSA) as the competent authority based on its appointment by the Cabinet in 2019 and also the relevant EU 2019 regulation, in order to set the responsibilities for issuing cybersecurity certification to private companies, based on the Cyprus Organization for Standardization.
As he noted, DSA will issue cybersecurity certificates for critical infrastructures.
Asked on the findings of a report regarding the flooding, a few months ago, of a room where government servers were installed, the Deputy Minister replied that he received the report on January 2nd, and indicated that this is a “huge” report of over 100 pages. He added that he needs time to study the report and then he will prepare his ow
n report and submit it to the Law Office of the Republic to proceed accordingly.
Asked if responsibilities were indeed identified but cannot be attributed to anyone the Deputy Minister said that he would have to study the report in full, prepare his own for the Law Office and if necessary he will hold a press conference. He also noted that within a reasonable period of time after the incident on April 23, the servers were moved to another location outside the Ministry of Finance.
