Parliamentary Assembly of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) concluded on Friday its extraordinary meeting in Copenhagen and discussed, among other issues, the situation in the Middle East and the current geopolitical challenges.
Vice-President of the Assembly, Cyprus MP Irene Charalambides noted that the war in the Middle East and the possibility of its further escalation, as well as the attacks of terrorist organisations and the consequences on international trade, are significant threats to security and stability in the OSCE region and therefore should be discussed by the OSCE PA, a press release issued by the House of Representatives says.
As regards the financial supervision of the Assembly, amendments were adopted to the current financial regulations, which provide for the annual performance audit of the International Secretariat, alongside the financial audit of the Assembly’s finances.
According to the press release, Charalambides argued on the need of adopting these am
endments. It is recalled that she submitted an additional resolution which was adopted at the most recent Annual Session of the OSCE.
The participants also discussed the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly and the Cyprus Deputy argued on the importance of extending the term of office of the President of the Assembly, so that he/she is able to implement any positions.
She also said that soon she will table an amendment for consideration by the Subcommittee on the Rules of Procedure, of which she is a member.
