‘More must be done,’ says British premier over outcomes of UN climate change summit

“Keeping the 1.5 degrees (Celsius temperature rise) commitment alive vital to future of our planet,” Rishi Sunak wrote on Twitter.

But the UN and EU expressed their disappointment over the conference’s final declaration on reducing emissions.

“Our planet is still in the emergency room. We need to drastically reduce emissions now, and this is an issue this COP did not address,” said UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

He described the decisions made by COP27, hosted by Egypt, as “clearly not enough” to cut emissions.

At the conference, nearly 200 countries made a historic deal to establish a “loss and damage” fund to help vulnerable countries hit hard by climate change.
