The situation in the Middle East, its consequences, as well as ways to de-escalate the tensions, were discussed between President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides and Prime Minister of Lebanon Najib Mikati, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, in New York.
A written statement by Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis says that at the meeting, which took place at the UN headquarters, the Prime Minister of Lebanon praised the role of the Republic of Cyprus as a pillar of stability in the region, as well as its contribution to providing humanitarian aid in the turbulent region of the Eastern Mediterranean.
The Lebanese Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude for the valuable contribution of the Republic of Cyprus in terms of humanitarian operations where there is need, as well as Nicosia’s efforts together with other states to de-escalate the tension.
They also discussed the latest developments in the Cyprus issue and other issues related to regional developments.
The meeting was
attended, from the Cypriot side, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Government Spokesman, the Deputy Minister of European Affairs, the Permanent Representative of the Republic to the UN, the Director of the Diplomatic Office of the President of the Republic and officials.
