Mexico’s retail sales rise 0.1% in May

ISTANBUL: Mexico’s retail sales increased 0.1% in May on a monthly basis, the country’s statistical authority said Monday.

The figure showed a slowdown from April, when it recorded a monthly gain of 0.5%.

On an annual basis, retail sales increased 0.3% compared to the same month last year, also significantly slowing down from an annual increase of 3.2% in April.

Annually, real income from the supply of goods and services decreased 4.4% in May, while total employed personnel rose 0.4% and real average salaries increased 6.4%, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) said in a statement.

On a monthly basis, in wholesale commercial companies, real income rose 3.3% and total employed personnel increased 0.1% in May, while real average salaries rose 2.1%, according to INEGI.

In May, in retail commercial companies, real income and total employed personnel increased 0.1% each, while real average salaries rose 0.7%, it added.
