Mexico’s retail sales fall 0.5% in June

ISTANBUL: Mexico's retail sales declined 0.5% in June on a monthly basis, the country's statistical authority said Tuesday. The figure came in line with market estimates, while retail sales in May was revised to no change from a gain of 0.1%. On a monthly basis, in retail commercial companies, real income fell 0.5% and total employed personnel remained unchanged in June, while real average salaries rose 0.7%, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI). In June, in wholesale commercial companies, real income fell 1.7%, total employed personnel increased 0.7%, while real average salaries fell 0.3%, it added. On an annual basis, retail sales decreased 3.9% compared to the same month last year. The expectation for the annual figure was to show a decrease of 1.8%, after increasing 0.3% in May year-on-year. Annually, real income from the supply of goods and services decreased 7.2% in June, while total employed personnel fell 0.2% and real average salaries increased 7.6%, INEGI sai d in a statement.
