Messages from German market are optimistic, Tourism Deputy Minister says

Messages from the German market are optimistic, despite the problems in the aviation sector at the moment and the negative outlook of the German economy, Cyprus’ Deputy Minister of Tourism, Kostas Koumis, said after wrapping up his meetings in Germany, as head of the Cypriot delegation at the ITB Berlin tourism exhibition.

According to a press release issued by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, Koumis held a series of contacts with the heads of tourism organizations that specialize or are intensively active in the German market, while contacts were also made with airline executives.

It is noted that in the framework of the exhibition, the Deputy Minister of Tourism also held political meetings with the Greek Minister of Tourism, Olga Kefalogianni, the Minister of Tourism of Israel, Haim Katz, and the Minister of Tourism of Malta, Clayton Bartolo.

It is added that in a statement after the conclusion of the contacts, Koumis said that “we came here to Germany with the aim of maintaining the gains achieved last
year from this important market”.

He noted that “it has become clear from our meetings that we can be optimistic, despite the significant challenges we face this year, such as the unprecedented situation in the aviation sector, which naturally affects flight schedules to many destinations and consequently to our country, but also other negative parameters, such as the situation of the German economy, which is essentially on the verge of economic recession.”

Koumis expressed optimism that what is currently happening in Germany, “and I am referring to the strike action in the aviation sector and in transport in general”, will soon come to an end.

He also said that as far as 2025 is concerned, the messages are also positive, and what is left is to continue contacts with a view to increasing the number of available seats if conditions in the aviation sector allow.

“We, as the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, will continue our multi-dimensional efforts to increase tourist flows to our country,” Koumis concluded.
