Chair of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee Yuli-Yoel Edelstein expressed gratitude for Cyprus’ support to Israel and the condemnation of the terrorist attack by Hamas, but also for the country’s initiative aimed at opening a sea corridor to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza.
A statement by the Parliament says that Chair of the Foreign and European Affairs Committee of the Cyprus House, Harris Georgiades, held an online meeting with Yuli-Yoel Edelstein Wednesday.
During the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of further deepening and strengthening the already excellent relations between the parliaments of Cyprus and Israel, on a bilateral and tripartite level, especially in light of the current period of crisis for regional peace, security and stability.
Georgiades and Edelstein expressed readiness for a rapid resumption of exchanges between the committees they chair, including in the context of tripartite cooperation between the Cyprus-Greece-Israel Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Co
mmittees.
The Cyprus MP condemned the terrorist attack by Hamas against Israeli citizens, underlining Israel’s right to self-defense.
He stressed at the same time that after the end of Israel’s war against Hamas, every possible effort must be made to ensure those conditions that will allow lasting peace in the Middle East and the wider region.
