MANCHESTER: Manchester United’s head coach Ruben Amorim has conceded that the iconic football club is facing the threat of relegation following a string of poor performances in the Premier League. The team has suffered their fourth defeat in five league matches, raising concerns about their position in the standings.
According to Anadolu Agency, Amorim expressed his concerns on Tuesday, a day after Manchester United’s home defeat to Newcastle United. He described the current situation as one of the most challenging periods in the club’s history and emphasized the need to address it with honesty. The Portuguese manager admitted to feeling embarrassed by the team’s performance and took responsibility for their lack of improvement.
The recent loss to Newcastle marked Manchester United’s fifth Premier League defeat in December, a level of poor performance not seen since September 1962. Furthermore, the team has endured three consecutive home league defeats for the first time since February 1979 and has lost three consecutive Premier League games in the same season for the first time since December 2015.
Amorim, 39, who took over the managerial role from Dutch coach Erik ten Hag, will be with the team until June 2027. Despite his efforts, Manchester United currently sits 14th in the Premier League standings with 22 points from 19 games, just seven points above the relegation zone.
