Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron stated on Saturday that a just and lasting peace cannot be achieved by abandoning Ukraine. He emphasized the significance of continued support for Ukraine in maintaining global stability.
According to Anadolu Agency, Macron invited US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to moderate their heated exchange, which occurred at the White House on Friday. Macron indicated that it would not be in the United States’ interest to withdraw support from Ukraine.
The French president argued that if a ceasefire is reached without providing security guarantees for Ukraine, the United States would lose its capacity for geostrategic deterrence against major global powers like Russia and China. Macron’s comments were made following a tense interaction in the Oval Office involving Zelenskyy, Trump, and US Vice President JD Vance.
During the Oval Office exchange, Trump criticized the attitude of the Ukrainian leader, while Zelenskyy expressed his expectation of continued support for his country.
