Leaders wrap up MED9 Summit deliberations in Paphos

The deliberations of the 11th Summit of the Mediterranean Member States of the European Union (MED9) hosted at the Minthis Resort in Paphos were concluded on Friday afternoon, with a Joint Declaration. A joint press conference of the heads of state and government is expected to follow. The Summit, which is chaired by the Republic of Cyprus, under President Nikos Christodoulides was attended by the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón, the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, Maltese Prime Minister Robert Abela, Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob and Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel. The King of Jordan along with the Crown Prince also participated in part of the work of the MED9 Summit, while the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, was also present. The Summit programme included a working lunch with the situation in th e Middle East being the main topic of discussion and two working sessions on EU-Jordan relations and Mediterranean priorities in relation to the new EU institutional cycle.
