Syria and increased migration flows were the focus of a meeting held on Friday in Cyprus between President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni and King of Jordan, Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein.
A written statement by Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis says that the discussion focused on increased migration flows that greatly affect countries in the region such as Cyprus, but also other member states of the European Union, “a particularly important issue in light of recent developments in our region”.
Letymbiotis added that the leaders discussed ways to support the voluntary returns of Syrians to Syria, through the creation of appropriate conditions under a strong plan.
The leaders stressed the urgent need to hold a structured debate at EU level to define common policies and actions, he concluded.
