Latvia donates nearly 300 cars impounded from drunk driving offenders to Ukraine

ANKARA: Latvia’s government has donated 271 cars taken from drunk driving offenders to war-battered Ukraine, according to local media reports.

In February, the parliament in the small Baltic nation – which borders Russia – passed a bill allowing vehicles impounded from drunk driving offenders to be handed over to Ukraine, which has been fighting off a Russian offensive since February 2022.

So far, 271 cars have been donated to Kyiv under the measure, while another 34 vehicles will be delivered soon, news portal Delfi reported on Saturday.

It added that the 271 vehicles are worth pound 903,453 (nearly $1 million).
