Kyrgyzstan’s President Sadyr Japarov paid tributes to those who laid down their lives in the country’s struggle for independence.
“Today we remember our history and ancestors who shed their blood for independence,” he said in a statement on Monday on Kyrgyzstan’s Days of History and Commemoration of Ancestors, marked annually on Nov. 7-8.
He said their sacrifices have “left an indelible mark” on the history of the country and its people.
“We must not forget that the most important duty of every citizen of Kyrgyzstan is to preserve the gift left to us – our statehood and independence – and pass it on to future generations,” Japarov added.
Top Kyrgyz officials also attended a ceremony at the Ata Beyit Memorial Complex near the capital Bishkek.
