Chair of the Cyprus Sailing Federation (CYSAF) Yiannos Photiou has said that Pavlos Kontides should be a role model for young sailors with his determination, discipline and hard work. Kontides won a silver medal in Paris Olympics, his second following the one he secured in the London Olympics 12 years ago.
Photiou said that what is remarkable is the fact that a small country like Cyprus managed to have four athletes in sailing in the Olympics and won a medal. He added that the Vice Chair of the World Sailing Federation who presented the award to Pavlos said that Cyprus is an example.
Photiou also noted that Cyprus’ presence impressed not only the Cypriots and the other spectators in the Games but also sailing experts.
He praised Pavlos for his professionalism and hard work saying that he should be a role model for youth athletes.
