Japan: Japan on Tuesday launched the world’s first wooden satellite into space. The satellite, crafted from timber, is set to play a crucial role in the exploration of the Moon and Mars.
According to Anadolu Agency, the satellite, named LignoSat, draws its name from the Latin word for wood. It was launched from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in the United States aboard a SpaceX rocket, destined for the International Space Station. LignoSat is a collaborative development by Kyoto University and the homebuilder Sumitomo Forestry.
The palm-sized satellite is designed to showcase the viability of renewable materials as humanity ventures further into space exploration. Its mission is to demonstrate the potential of wood as a sustainable material for cosmic applications, aligning with the growing interest in finding eco-friendly solutions for future space endeavors.
