Italian theatre great Glauco Mauri dies

Much-loved Italian theatre actor Glauco Mauri has died, his theatre company Mauri Sturno confirmed on Sunday.

Mauri would have turned 94 on October 1.

The actor and director had founded the theatre company in 1961 with Roberto Sturno, who passed away in 2023.

Born in Pesaro in 1930, Mauri throughout a 70-year-long career acted in plays by Shakespeare, Molière, Pirandello, Dostoevskij and Goldoni.

He was originally scheduled to star in the play De Profundis by Oscar Wilde at the Vascello Theatre in Rome this week but the performance was cancelled because the actor was unwell.
