Zhytomyr: Two people lost their lives and 82 others suffered injuries following explosions near the village of Berezyna in Ukraine’s Zhytomyr region, according to regional governor Vitalii Bunechko. Among the injured is a Japanese national who has been provided with shelter and necessary medical care.
According to Anadolu Agency, 38 of the injured individuals have been hospitalized, all of whom are reported to be in moderate or mild condition. The explosions also resulted in a fire, which authorities have successfully extinguished. The incident caused damage to approximately 100 homes, with about a quarter of them reportedly destroyed.
Bunechko assured the public that the recovery of damaged buildings is underway and emphasized the collaboration between the state, region, and community in this effort. He communicated these updates through a post on Telegram.
The blasts took place near the M-06 highway, where traffic restrictions have now been lifted. Investigative teams are actively working at the site to ascertain the cause of the explosions, which officials have referred to as a ‘tragic’ incident. Although the cause remains unknown, earlier statements suggested that the explosions occurred at industrial facilities. No direct accusations have been made, nor have authorities commented on any potential Russian involvement.
