Malé: Welcoming the International Criminal Court’s decision to issue arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, the president of Maldives stated it is ‘a crucial step towards ensuring accountability for war crimes and crimes against humanity.’
According to Anadolu Agency, President Mohamed Muizzu expressed support for the ICC’s actions, emphasizing the Maldives’ respect for the court’s decisions and the importance of implementing its rulings. He highlighted the necessity of upholding international law and ensuring justice for the Palestinian people as essential components for restoring peace in the region. Muizzu made these remarks on X, formerly known as Twitter, reinforcing his support for the ICC’s procedures and the rights of the Palestinian people.
In a landmark move, the International Criminal Court announced on Thursday that it had issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant over alleged war crimes committed in Palestinian territories,
including Gaza. This decision marks a significant development in international efforts to hold those accused of war crimes accountable.
In alignment with their stance, the Maldives parliament is currently debating a bill that seeks to ban entry for all individuals holding Israeli passports. The proposed amendment to the Immigration Act was submitted to the parliament on May 29, reflecting the nation’s firm position on the matter.
