Hundreds of Amazon workers in a Coventry warehouse went on stike on Wednesday for the first time in the UK.
Following Amazon’s 50 pence per hour pay offer, workers decided to walkout last month with over 98% of them backing the action.
Amazon UK Services Limited reported that it paid just £10.8 million in taxes in 2021, despite recording a pre-tax profit of £204 million.
Amanda Gearing, GMB senior organizer said earlier that Amazon workers in Coventry are set to “make history on 25 January, becoming the first ever Amazon workers in the UK to go on strike.”
“GMB urges Amazon UK bosses to give workers a proper pay rise and avoid industrial action altogether,” she said in a statement last month.
