House President congratulates new PACE President

House of Representatives President, Annita Demetriou, has congratulated the newly elected President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Greek MP Theodoros Roussopoulos, expressing her confidence that he will lead the PACE with a view to defending the principles and values of the Council of Europe.

In congratulatory letter Demetriou conveyed her own and the members of the House of Representatives congratulations for the unanimous election of Roussopoulos to the Presidency of the PACE, Demetriou and expressed confidence that Roussopoulos will lead the Assembly with a view to upholding the principles and values of the Council of Europe and that, under his leadership, the Assembly will respond adequately to today’s complex challenges.

In a House of Representatives press release, she assured the new PACE President of the full support of the House of Representatives in his difficult task.

She further said that through the multi-level cooperation and synergies developed by the parliame
nts within the framework of the Assembly, we can “contribute to strengthening the reach and credibility of the PACE throughout the European area and to strengthening and reinforcing our democratic institutions, human rights and the rule of law.”
