Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen and his Libyan counterpart Najla Mangoush convened in Rome last week for a "historic meeting", the Israeli foreign ministry said in a statement on Sunday.
In the statement Cohen thanked Italian Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani for hosting the meeting, the first of its kind between the two countries.
He described the meeting, which he said included exploring possibilities for cooperation and preserving the heritage of Libyan Jewry, as "a first step in the relationship between Israel and Libya".
