Hellas Verona topple Juventus 2-1 in Italian league

A Giovanni Simeone-led Hellas Verona beat Juventus 2-1 in an Italian Serie A league match at home on Saturday

The Argentine forward scored two consecutive goals in minutes 11 and 14 in Verona.

In his first goal, Simeone followed a rebound by Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny to score into an open goal.

The second was a classy finesse shot fired outside the penalty area that beat Szczesny.

Juventus’ US midfielder Weston McKennie scored a right-footed strike in the area in the 80th minute — a consolation goal for the Bianconeri.

Hellas Verona has collected 15 points in 11 matches in Serie A and are in the eighth position.

One of the biggest teams in Italy, Juventus are quite desperate for the 2021-22 Italian title.

Following the loss to Verona, Juventus have 15 points and is in ninth place in the league led by Napoli, who has 28 points.

Similar to Napoli, second-place AC Milan have 28 points in 10 matches.

Milan’s archrivals Inter Milan are in the third spot with 21 points.

Napoli, Milan, and Inter will play league matches on Sunday.

Leaders Napoli will visit Salernitana, Milan will go against Roma in an away match, and Inter will host Udinese.
