Cyprus is an example of dealing with global health challenges, Minister of Health Michalis Damianos said Monday, addressing the 77th World Health Organisation (WHO) World Health Assembly in Geneva. In his speech, he called on everyone to invest in the health sector and expressed his gratitude to the World Health Organisation for the work it is doing to ensure the highest possible level of health for all. He pointed out that Cyprus is an example of navigating through global health challenges, by taking remarkable steps to improve public health. Cyprus, the Minister added, implemented in 2019 the General Health System which offers health coverage to all, based on the principles of universal coverage, economic solidarity, equal access and high-quality health services, in accordance with the third Sustainable Development Goal of the UN 2030 agenda. We have built, he added, a strong network involving more than 90% of the country's healthcare providers, which resulted in a dramatic reduction in private health ca re spending from 50% to around 12%. 'It is imperative that we collectively address global challenges, utilizing our shared knowledge and resources to build a healthier future for all," he concluded. Source: Cyprus News Agency
